Web thing 6: audio

I just found out that I have an extension to finish and I 'm home sick. I just downloaded SoundCloud. I listened to a book review and will listen to a book later. I also like that I can record on this but I'm not sure what I would record. It is a nice feature, though. SoundCloud suggested recording a meeting...don't think so. Maybe when we go on vacation later this summer, I will forego a written journal, which I hate doing anyway and record thoughts about our trip on SoundCloud.

Web thing 7: content saving

Pinterest is SO addicting. I fel like I can find just about anything here! I have looked for paint colors, recipes, party decoration ideas, and even ideas about how to decorate my lambic cake for Easter. My daughter and I send each other diet friendly recipes from this app. I have a whole cookbook saved just on Pinterest. This is one of the best apps ever. I bet it even has some ideas about hosting Take Your Child to Work in the library!

Web thing 17: connecting to community

MN Museums is a great app. I searched for various types of museums in various cities. This would be a great tool for trips around the state as well as for discovering new museums close to home. I searched for zoos in Minneapolis and they gave me two close ones:Como Zoo and the Raptor Center. I will definitely use this one!

Web thing 19: hobbies

I downloaded MyGarden. I like the concept. You can view different plants and get some facts about them...photos, what kind of work they requires, how big they get. You can also see the other " garden ears" on the site and ask them questions or follow their posts. It appears to me that the site is relatively new. There were some postings such as Joe wants to have the photo of this plant identified but then I can't see a photo of the plant in question. Maybe it just wasn't working today. I like the idea of sharing info about gardening with others, though.

Mobile thing 11: library & reference

LOVE ELM so I took a look at the mobile version. I remember working at the Minitex booth at e State Fair years ago and grabbing kids out of the aisles to look at Research Project Calculator. I still plug ELM frequently in my medical library. It is a tremendous resource!

Web thing 18: education

Lots of interesting apps to try in this category. I tried :Duolingo and started relearning Spanish. The lessons are short so it is easy to set a daily goal to do one each day. There are fun ways to test your knowledge and. Corrections if you miss a word. I will continue to use Duolingo.

Web thing 12: bookb, books and more books

I downloaded Audiobooks..good app. One can get free books, free books with inexpensive upgrades or pay for books. Lots of different languages and tons of titles. I'm not sure that I would want to listen to Gray's Anatomy on audiobook, but someone might, I guess! I downloaded Treasure
Island but didn't like the marrator's scratchy voice. I will look for another classic free book to listen to on those nights when my eyes are tired and I just want to feel a little pampered by having someone read to me. AHHH, bring on the hot  tea and the lavender eye pillow!

Web thing 21 : free for all: the weather channel

I love this app. My daughter told me about it when I first got my iPad. I always use it to look up the weathering Minneapolis but also to whatever city I am going to travel to. Right now my husband is in India and while we are freezing in Minnestoa, I can see whether he is enjoying 80's or90's. I think I use this app almost daily. I just told my brother in Ohio about it since he just bought himself an iPad, too.

Web thing 20:games

I got the name of the game wronginthe last post..not word spill but word collapse..sorry!

Webthing 20:games

I downloaded word spill..oh, no! I can see this becoming addictive!  I like to play Quix up also but am glad to have another game on my iPad.

Thing5: notetaking

I downloaded Remember the Milk. I didn't think that it was very intuitive but I did add tasks to it. Honestly, I use outlook so much at work that I 'm not really sure that I will use this much..I really use paper lists quite a lot. It is interesting to see the various note apps available but this is one category that I don't think I'll use much.

Webthing 2

I watched the iOS iPad overview. I learned a couple of things about the media center and will probably pay more attention to the daily full page notifications. But the bit about the camera now having an HDR feature...excuse me, but does everyone but me know what that stands for? I would rather go to my local Apple store and get an update class in person.

Webthing 9: taking and editing photos

I downloaded ColorSplurge shortly afterthewebinar in December. I scanned an old black and white photo of my brother and I when we were kids and using ColorSplurge, added color to our clothes.i posted the photo on my Facebbok page and gotlotsof likes!it was fun to play with

Webthing 3:Utilities

I downloaded I home sleep. The zen sounds sounded like they would be relaxing but I would have to pay for that. I was showing this app to my daughter who uses Sleeptime on her phone. I didn't find that for my iPad but I did find Sleep Pillow..it was also a free app. I think it looks a little easier to use than the ihome app. It gave me a choice of a few sounds to fall asleep with by a timer. I liked the storm sounds and so I 'm going to try that tonight. I usually fall asleep to MPR news but if the stories are disturbing, I turn it off. This will be a nice alternative. I am also going to try their alarm tomorrow morning.

Thing 4: keepingup

I downloaded the apps Flipboard as well as Zite. I have been using Flipboard since December when I learned about it on the webinar. I look at it almost every evening. I don't watch t.v. And only listen to public radio so it is a good way to get more news for the day. I just downloaded Zite tonight. I really like it. It seems a little easier to narrow down the topic that I want to look at. I selected several topics at first. Once the stories starting appearing it told me that I could tap on the heart icon on an article and it would feed me similar articles.  I tapped on a story about budgets. I thought that I would get more stories on personal budgets but it was not so precise..I got several stories on international and corporate budgets. Oh we'll, I still like the app and will probably look at it fairly frequently.

Web thing1: registering for a blog

I looked at my options for a blog and selected Blogger. I had forgotten that I had already set this up when I did 23 things on a stick so it was easy to add a new blog. I hope to learn more things that I can do on my iPad. I attended the webinar on 23 web things this fall and got excited about the program. I have already tried ColorSplurge and Flipbook after that session. I will do entries for those later on. My only concern...will I learn more things that will keep me up later at night monkeying around with my new toy?lOL.

Registering for 23 web things

I'm just registering for this great program and I am looking forward to learning many new things!
